In this article, I’m not gonna go through all different types of sunglasses and tell you how good they are, so today I’m gonna focus on just one model! The Ray-Ban Wayfarer 2140!
Let’s find out more about the Ray-Ban Wayfarers. I’m sure most of you have come across a pair of wayfarers before, you don’t have to be a sunglasses geek to recognize this. Even your grandparents could recognise the design of them. The Ray-Ban Wayfarer was first designed in 1952 by optical designer Raymond Stegeman and created a major break through in the industry, which set them apart from the usual metal framed eyewears. The Wayfarer became an essential piece of fashion item since. Ray-Ban set the trend and created revolutionary changes to the eyewear and fashion industries.
The Wayfarers gained major success during the 1950’s and 1960’s, especially after they were worn by Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 movie, ” Breakfast At Tiffany’s.” Though the novelty was worn off, they faded from the limelight by the 1970’s. I suppose dominating the market for two decades isn’t bad. But that was not it for the Wayfarers. In 1982 a lucrative product placement took the popularity of the Wayfarers to new heights. Since the mid 2000’s, the sunglasses have been enjoying a revival and are cited as the best-selling sunglasses in history. Althought I think that is arguable. Wayfarers’s little brother, the Aviators might have enough fans to oppose that. But the Wayfarers have definitely been one of the most enduring fashion icons of the 20th century.

In recent years Ray-Ban introduced new collections to the original Wayfarer design to respond to the market’s demand. Wayfarers come in many styles now, many changes were made in the 2000’s. In 2007, there were Original Wayfarers, New Wayfarers and Wayfarer Folding Styles. And…To this day, Wayfarers features a two tone style. Amongst various color combinations of sand/blue, black/lime, black/orange, black/yellow, purple/red and printed styles.. Very Kpop! Just the way we like it!
